Ex-offenders contribute greatly to improving the quality of criminal justice services
Nacro, the crime reduction charity has welcomed the publication of Unlocking Potential, a report by the Clinks taskforce into involving offenders and ex-offenders in service provision and criminal justice policy.
Commenting, Paul Cavadino, Nacros Chief Executive, said:
"Involving offenders and ex-offenders in shaping penal policy and rehabilitation services is just basic common sense. In planning ways of dealing with offenders with the best chance of reducing reoffending, we must learn from the unique experience of people who have been at the sharp end of the penal system.
"Twelve per cent of Nacro's staff and many of our volunteers have past criminal records. Ex-offenders often have a strong motivation to give something back and to help young people avoid making the same mistakes as them. Their experience contributes greatly to improving the quality of our work with offenders and young people at risk of offending."

Notes to editors
1. Nacros services strongly support the principle of service-user involvement, for example Nacros servicer user connect group in Manchester brings together Nacro tenants and floating support users to discuss how their services could be improved. The group also supports its members to do voluntary work helping other Nacro service users, other homeless people in Manchester, and the local community.
2. Unlocking Potential will be launched at The Princes Trust, 18 Park Square East, London NW1 4LH at 11am on Tuesday 10 June.
