Get Set! for Supported Internships

In partnership with the Marriott Hotel, our new supported internship provision is for any young person with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (ECHP). We have designed this programme to give you the opportunity to gain real-world work experience and help you achieve the marketable job skills employers are actively seeking. We’ll also help you to grow your confidence and independence, through our dedicated mentors who will be there to support and guide you.

What you can expect

Through our supported internships, you will gain valuable work experience in a range of different roles in the Marriott Hotel, exploring what you like and learning new skills. Our programme is crafted to give you a wide range of experiences and knowledge to help you to develop your CV and start your career in leisure and hospitality.

We have designed this course for those who:

  • Have an interest in working in the leisure and hospitality sector
  • Have a current Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Aged between 18-24 years old ready to leave education
  • Have the desire to pursue and achieve paid employment
  • Be able to travel independently or be open to learning independent travel skills

What is a Get Set! course at Nacro Newcastle Education Centre?

Our Get Set! courses at Nacro Newcastle Education Centre accelerate your learning and enable you to identify and make progress towards your aspirations. We combine vocational learning with essential English and mathematics qualifications, enriching experiences and workplace encounters to equip you for career success.

Nacro Education study programme

Our courses are crafted to enable you to:

  • Develop industry-specific skills through hands on vocational courses in areas like animal care, civil engineering, motor vehicle maintenance, and Work Ready at Nacro Newcastle Education Centre.
  • Improve your English, maths, and digital literacy to strengthen your foundations for work and life*.
  • Participate in a range of work experience and employment related encounters to gain insights into the industries and careers paths that are of interest to you.
  • Gain vital skills for the workplace including communication, problem solving, teamworking, interview practice and CV writing.
  • Participate in a range of activities, opportunities, team collaboration challenges and educational site visits that enable personal development through real experiences.

*GCSE/Functional Skills English and maths are only required if you haven’t already gained a grade 4 or above.

Working closely with the Newcastle community

We work within our community, establishing partnerships and helping bring the local area closer together.

Because of our partnerships, every learner has the chance to take part in valuable work experience and engage with a number of local businesses including Turner & Townsend, ESH Group and Ouseburn Farm.

Shining a light on our courses

At Nacro Newcastle Education Centre, we are privileged to have some great partnerships within our community. Our animal care learners have regular visits to Ouseburn Farm where they take part in feeding, cleaning and looking after live animals.

Our civil engineering students are guaranteed a job interview at the end of their course and have guidance for progression into employment.

We offer additional courses to all of our learners, giving multiple opportunities to expand their CVs.
