Darren has more than 25 years’ experience operating within a range of sectors including central government, regulatory bodies, third sector, criminal justice and management consultancy.
Previous positions include Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor, Mission Critical Programme Director at the Office of Government Commerce, and Head of Strategy, Policy, Research and Corporate Affairs at the Legal Complaints Service. Originally trained as a lawyer, he later specialised in business and change management (MBA) and holds post graduate qualifications in penology, criminology and management.
Darren has served as a police detective within the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Operations Unit (SO11), held senior management positions within the National Offender Management Service, and Head of the Programme and Project Management Unit at Thames Valley Police. Darren is currently the Governing Governor of a closed specialist training prison and an open resettlement prison having previously governed an adult young offender institution and remand centre. Darren Chairs regional Boards in relation to health and justice and is currently the Chair of a strategic multi-agency partnership board where he is responsible for the oversight of public protection and commissioning of serious case reviews. He has previously been a Ministry of Justice Independent Monitoring Board member.
