Nacro’s 60th anniversary parliamentary reception

Today, we hosted a parliamentary reception to mark our 60th anniversary and celebrate six decades of dedication from our staff and volunteers.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made it so special – the people we support, our staff and volunteers, colleagues, MPs and partners.

Our speakers included:

1. Our CEO, Enver Solomon, who reflected on the vital work we do across housing, education, justice, and health.
2. Tanya, a member of Nacro’s Justice ExChange, our lived experience group for people who’ve been in contact with the justice system, who praised the support she’s received from Nacro and explained how the ExChange has given her a platform to speak about issues affecting women in the justice system.
3. Ali, a Nacro Education student, whose confidence and qualifications have grown thanks to the support he received, and who is now working towards his future career.
4. Nicholas Hardwick, Chair of our Board of Trustees, who spoke about Nacro’s record of supporting people to turn their lives around since the 1960s.
5. Lord Timpson, former Minister for Prisons and Probation, who highlighted the importance of support like Nacro’s in helping people overcome “the hand they’ve been dealt”.
6. Catherine Atkinson, MP for Derby North, who discussed the importance of rehabilitation in ensuring that our justice system is fit for the future.
7. Matt Upton, adviser to the Alan Milburn Review, who spoke about the importance of helping young people realise their ambitions and the vital role education plays in this.
