What we do
Our Family Accommodation Support Service in Stockton-on-Tees provides housing-related support to families across the Stockton-on-Tees Borough who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.
Families accessing the service may be fleeing domestic abuse or violence, experiencing difficulties sustaining a tenancy, involved with social care services, or adjusting to life in the UK following the granting of Leave to Remain.
The service aims to promote independence, improve family wellbeing, reduce the risk of repeat homelessness and secure and sustain long-term independent accommodation.
How it works
Support is provided through a combination of face-to-face and remote contact, with all families receiving at least one face-to-face visit each week.
The service comprises 14 units of accommodation, enabling families to remain within their local communities and maintain access to schools, healthcare, employment and support networks.
Once people leave the service, we offer floating support to help with the transition.
We support with:
- Tenancy sustainment and housing management.
- Budgeting, financial planning and debt management.
- Maximising benefit entitlement.
- Accessing grants and financial assistance for household items.
- Registration and bidding through choice-based lettings schemes.
- Support to access private rented accommodation.
- Engagement with health, education and community services.
- Attendance at multi-agency meetings and advocacy on behalf of families.
- Planning for successful move-on into long-term independent housing.
