Titan prisons could squeeze resources for rehabilitation

Commenting on the publication of the Government’s consultation on titan prisons, Paul Cavadino, Chief Executive of Nacro, the crime reduction charity, said:

“Instead of spending large amounts of public money on building titan prisons the government should legislate to reduce the use of custody and divert resources into improving rather than extending the prison system.

“If titan prisons do go ahead they must include comprehensive resettlement services to reduce the risk of reoffending.

“The risk is that resources to improve prisoners’ rehabilitation will be squeezed by a strategy of prison expansion.”
