Course Overview

Get Set! to start your journey into the world of sport and fitness with Nacro Education Spalding.

If you’re thinking about a career in sport, looking for something a bit different from mainstream college, and still want a nationally recognised qualification, our Level 2 Certificate in Sport (Sport Exercise and Fitness) is a great place to start.

The course combines theoretical and practical learning so you will come away with the hands-on experience, skills, and knowledge you need to kickstart your fitness career.

You’ll learn about the bones and muscles that you will use in the gym and sports, and the body systems that maintain your fitness, as well learning about nutrition and how it is related to exercise.

Giving you the transferable skills and knowledge, you need to start your career, progress onto further levels of study, or pursue an apprenticeship.

At the end of the course, you’ll have the hands-on experience and confidence you need to take your next step.

Entry requirements

Students are expected to have some experience of gym-based exercise, including free weights, and will have the opportunity to retake their maths and English GCSE as part of this course if they do not already have a Grade 4 or above.

Course details

At Nacro Education Spalding, we let you learn in your way, at your pace. On Level 2 Certificate in Sport you will develop your knowledge and skills to plan and safely deliver affective exercise programmes within a gym or other health and fitness environment.

Whilst studying this course you will gain skills and understanding in:

• Anatomy, physiology, and nutrition and how they relate to exercise and fitness.
• How to conduct client and group inductions in a gym-based environment and support exercise adherence and health lifestyle.
• Participation in Sport and Exercise
• Personal and professional development.

You will be awarded the qualification following successful completion of the units through a portfolio of evidence.

During your Level 2 Certificate in Sport course, you will cover a range of modules designed to broaden your knowledge and skills and give you the confidence to take the next step. By completing these modules, you will be able to gain an industry-recognised certification. These include:

  • Participating in sports
  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise
  • Development of personal fitness through training
  • Introduction to healthy exercise and nutrition

By completing these modules, you will be able to gain an industry recognised certification.

As part of your Level 2 Certificate in Sport, you will also complete your GCSE or Functional Skills English and/or maths, depending on previous achievement.

At Nacro Education Spalding, we use a variety of assessment methods to ensure you achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Sport.

You will be assessed in a range of ways, through completion of worksheets, observations of your practical work and assignments. Your teacher will go through all this when you sign up for the course.

For the Level 2 Certificate in Sport, you’ll be able to explore opportunities for work experience and work-related activities within the world of sport.

Your tutor will help you to find a suitable placement for work experience, and you’ll be supported during your time there, meaning you’ll leave with something impressive to add to your CV, as well as gaining real-world experience.

Enrichment activities allow you to gain valuable extra-curricular experiences that enable you to stand out on your CV. As part of all our Get Set! courses, you will be involved in a variety of enrichment opportunities which are on offer through the year, including:

  • First aid
  • Email writing and communication skills
  • Elevate Conference trip
  • CV writing and interview practice
  • Job research

For Level 2 Certificate in Sport, students will be able to engage in a variety of activities to support their studies, including visits to local sports centres, attending a first aid course, and trips to the likes of Elevate fitness conference in London.

After successfully passing this course, you will have core knowledge to progress to a higher-level qualification and to move forward towards your chosen career.

Once you have completed your Level 2 Certificate in Sport, you will be qualified to work within the Sport and Fitness industry. We can also explore progression opportunities, such as Level 3 qualifications and apprenticeships which are delivered by partners in the local area, including personal training and sports massage therapist.
