Nacro response to Ministry of Justice’s new Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill

The Ministry of Justice have introduced a new Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill which includes a ‘tough on crime’ approach with longer sentences and harsher punishments
In response to the new Bill, Campbell Robb, Nacro Chief Executive, commented: “We all want to cut crime and create safer communities for everyone, but these reforms won’t achieve that.

“Successive governments have brought in longer sentences and created more prison places but it hasn’t reduced crime or slowed the rate of reoffending.

“What we really need is a Bill that can deliver real change: focusing on rehabilitation and the reasons why people turn to crime in the first place.”
