Get Set! to start your journey into the world of Health and Social Care with Nacro Education Bolton.
If you’re thinking about a career working with those in need, looking for something a bit different from mainstream college, and still want a nationally recognised qualification, our Get Set! for Health and Social Care Level 2 is a great place to start.
You will learn about safeguarding, understanding principals and values in social care, effective communication, healthy lifestyle, and human growth and development. You will also have the opportunity to complete your First Aid qualification with the certification lasting three years.
Students that are eligible can apply for a bursary to support with travel costs, meals and any equipment needed to complete the course.
During the course you will gain hands on experience, helping you build the confidence and insight you need to make an informed decision on your chosen career path including, nursing, childcare, and other areas within the NHS.
There are always opportunities for our students to visit a variety of establishments in the surrounding area for hands on experience in the sector. Giving you the transferable skills and knowledge you need to start your career, progress onto further levels of study, or pursue an apprenticeship.
Study will take place in the centre with opportunities for external visits and trips throughout the course. At the end of the course, you’ll have the hands-on experience and confidence you need to take your next step.
What will I learn?
At Nacro Education Bolton we let you learn in your way, at your pace. On Get Set! for Health and Social Care Level 2 you will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge you’ll need to work in the industry. This course has been purposely designed to enhance your knowledge, equipping you with the skills you need.
Lessons will be both practical and theory based, and you will be awarded the qualification following successful completion of the modules through a portfolio of evidence.
You will be able to visit and observe health and social care practitioners and others in the field, to gain experience and prepare you for your future.
Here at Nacro Education Bolton, you will be taught by a fully qualified health and social care teacher who has experience in elderly residential care, mental health services, and childcare.
We will work with you to source work experience opportunities and help you to develop and network within the community.
Modules
As part of your Health and Social Care Level 2 course, you will cover a range of modules designed to broaden your knowledge and skills and give you the confidence to take the next step. By completing these modules, you will be able to gain an industry recognised award or certification.
Modules covered:
- Principles of communication in adult social care setting
- Principles of personal development in adult care settings
- Principles of diversity, equality, and inclusion in adult social care settings
- Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
- Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
- Understand the role of the social care worker.
- Understand person centred approaches in adult social care settings.
- Understand health and safety in social care settings.
- Understand how to handle information in social care settings.
To complete each module, each one requires an accompanying task. This can be completed in various formats including designing posters, booklets, or handwritten assignments.
As part of your Get Set! Health and Social Care Level 2 course, you will also complete your GCSE and/or Functional Skills English and/or maths, depending on whether you have achieved a grade 4 or above.
Assessment
At Nacro Education Bolton, we use a variety of assessment methods to ensure you achieve the Health and Social Care Level 2 qualification.
Modules are assessed in the form of a portfolio of work, this could include observations on practical tasks or written assessments. Each assessment is completed under exam conditions.
You’ll be supported with all your work and given feedback to support your develop. Your teacher will go through all this when you sign up for the course.
Work experience
Our Get Set! courses give you the opportunity to gain real-world experience working in local businesses alongside the learning you’ll do at Nacro Education.
For Health and Social Care Level 2 at Nacro Education Bolton, you will have the chance to gain hands on experience by visiting a diverse range of health and social care settings.
The length of these visits depends on your individual needs, it could be once a month or for a week slot, dates and work experience opportunities will be clarified and adjusted to suit you.
There will be external visitors to the centres to gain information, advice, and guidance about work related opportunities from within the health and social care sector. Providing you with ample opportunities to pose any queries and questions you may have to industry professionals.
Our team will help you to find a suitable work placement and you’ll be supported while working there. Meaning you’ll leave with something impressive to add to your CV, as well as gaining practical experience and skills.
Enrichment opportunities
Enrichment activities allow you to gain valuable extra-curricular experiences that enable you to stand out on your CV. As part of all our Get Set! courses, you will be involved in a variety of enrichment opportunities which are on offer through the year, including:
- Email writing and communication skills.
- CV writing and interview practice.
- Job research.
For our Health and Social Care course, to enhance your learning and understanding we invite various outside agencies into the setting to support your learning. These visits could be a professional from the health care sector sharing their experiences, advice from the job centre, or other professionals to support you with your interview techniques.
All our enrichment activities are designed to support you to move on in your career path. Providing practical advice and support, giving you the confidence to become more independent and confident.
Career and progression
After successfully passing this course, you will have core knowledge to progress to a higher-level qualification and to move forward towards your chosen career.
Once you have passed your Health and Social Care Level 2 course, you will have the opportunity to move on to a college course at level 3, an apprenticeship, a foundation degree, or move into a job in your chosen area.
