Statement of condolence

Published:

On the 8th of September 2022 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died. She had served as the patron of Nacro for over 50 years.

Statement from Nacro

From Nacro’s Chief Executive, Campbell Robb, and Chair of Trustees, Professor Nick Hardwick CBE in response to the passing of Her Majesty The Queen: “We are deeply saddened at Nacro to hear that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died. Since Nacro was founded over 50 years ago, the Queen served as our faithful patron, supporting our work to help the most vulnerable in our society. Through her lifetime and reign, Her Majesty served to champion projects that helped those in need of support. Nacro was honoured to be one of these projects and will continue to help people have the best chance at a second chance and reach their full potential. Our deepest condolences to the Royal Family.”

The Queen and Nacro

As patron, The Queen visited our services, including a memorable visit to our education and resettlement services in the North East in 1986. Here she met service users, frontline staff and Nacro management, who showed her around the service and demonstrated the different programmes on offer.

In 2016, we were invited to The Queen’s 90th birthday, where Nacro staff members were able to march in a parade and attend a lunch with The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Reflecting on the celebrations one staff member said: “The Queen’s patronage and invitation to this celebratory lunch meant a great deal, signalling Her Majesty’s recognition that people deserve a second chance and the opportunity to move on.
