Nacro response to the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs report

Nacro has responded to the release of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs report, which was published here yesterday. 
Helen Berresford, Director of External Engagement at Nacro, said:

“In Nacro’s experience, being released on a Friday can make an already difficult day almost impossible and increases the possibility of people reoffending. The first day of release is often a race against the clock to present to services before the weekend and this coupled with peaks of releases on a Friday, can result in people not being able to get vital medication, having to sleep rough and survive on a £46 discharge grant until services reopen on Mondays.

“At Nacro, we have been calling for an end to Friday prison releases and we found that 72% of UK adults agree. We call on the new Prisons and Probation Minister to take action and end Friday releases.”
