New £35m Ministry of Justice contract

Published:

We are delighted to announce we have been commissioned to run the new CAS-2 service for people on bail or released from prison under licence conditions for the next five years.

Despite the difficulties of operating during the pandemic through BASS, Nacro has helped over 8000 people coming out of prison or on bail. The new CAS-2 service will include enhanced and tailored support for service users delivered by frontline staff trained to support people with a wider range of needs. The scheme will help service users get online so they can access vital services, such as employment, education, GPs and banking. The new service will also offer tailored support for women.

What is CAS-2?

CAS-2 also known as the Community Accommodation Scheme Tier 2, is part of the new three tier accommodation delivery system that the Ministry of Justice has contracted for delivery. CAS-2 is the new name for the Bail Accommodation and Support Service (BASS), which Nacro has been delivering since June 2018 on behalf of the Ministry of Justice.

Nacro comment

Campbell Robb, Nacro Chief Executive, said: “We are really proud that we will be able to build upon our success over the past three years delivering BASS on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. I know our staff have gone the extra mile for the people we have supported, especially as the service has largely been delivered during the pandemic. It hasn’t been easy but now more than ever people have needed our support. They’ve needed help navigating the changing post Covid-19 world and needed reassurance that there are still options out there for them. I’m really proud to be continuing this service and I’m looking forward to continuing the vital work we have started.”
