Nacro response to change in rules to increase day release from prison

We welcome efforts to increase the use of Release on Temporary Licence (RoTL), which plays an important role in improving resettlement for people coming out of prison.
Having a job, somewhere to live and family and community connections are all known to reduce the risk of someone reoffending on release. Release on temporary licence is an important part of putting these things in place and easing the transition back into the community, reducing reoffending and ultimately preventing future victims of crime.

We hope that today’s announcement is the first step in increasing the use of temporary release across the prison estate and giving people the chance to turn their lives around.
