Funding and bursaries
Students under 19 will not have to pay fees providing you are legally in the UK. You may be able to access Bursary funding to help you with travel and meals depending on your personal circumstances.
Students aged over 19 may be eligible for free tuition depending on the course you want to study, your existing qualifications and your financial circumstances. This will be discussed at enrolment.
There are no specific entry requirements but a passion for working with animals.
What will I learn?
Level 1 Animal Care is aimed at anyone who is interested in Animal Care and will be based at our Ouseburn Farm site. You will complete both practical and theory based units such as animal handling, accommodation, and feeding and watering.
You will have the chance to do at least two weeks of relevant work experience to support your studies, gain experience and potentially develop contacts with future employers. Our team will help you secure a work placement and will provide you with everything required for you to attend your placement.
Learners will undertake theory and practical units which can include:
Safe and Effective Working Practices in Land-based Industries
Assist with Maintaining the Health and Wellbeing of Animals
Assist with Watering and Feeding Animals
Assist with the Preparation and Maintenance of Animal Accommodation
Assist with the Handling and Restraint of Animals
You will be assessed through a combination of coursework assignments and practical observations.
There are a variety of enrichment opportunities on offer throughout the year, including trips and external visits.
Career and Progression
You can progress onto a Level 2 Animal Care course.
