Nacro Trustee since 2015

Educated in Wigan, Manchester and Blackpool, Ron worked for Grand Metropolitan, Mecca Leisure (where he managed an MBO for £8.5 million), Lancashire County Cricket Club, owned a hotel in the Lake District and then established his own company, Signature Leisure, through an MBO. This was a food manufacturing business with more than 100 personnel and a turnover in excess of £5 million. After four years, a close family bereavement caused him to sell his share of the business. Ron then joined Business Link for London as a Senior Business Manager, before becoming the Director, assigned to develop the London Business Support Network, working with both the London Development Agency and Business Link for London.

He joined West Sussex County Council in early 2005 to develop an economic strategy and new team. He was accountable for a team of dynamic enthusiasts and professionals across a broad spectrum of accountability. The responsibility covered everything from economic matters, financial inclusion, 2012 activities, environment and climate change (mitigation and adaptation) to tourism, rural operations and finally sustainability within West Sussex schools.

His latest role, as Chief Executive of Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, focuses on strengthening the economy, developing employment opportunities and supporting devolved Government funding to achieve its objectives. The Coast to Capital area includes Brighton and Hove, Croydon, Gatwick Diamond, Surrey and West Sussex.
