Brenda was Principal and Chief Executive of Solihull College for eleven years and during that time she led the rebuild of its entire estate and significantly improved both its reputation and quality of provision. She played a pivotal role in supporting the development of the skills of the local and regional workforce and established partnerships with many major employers including Birmingham Airport, JLR, Resorts World and the NEC.
Prior to entering Further Education, Brenda’s career began as a teacher in Cambridgeshire before moving into the management of Community and Adult Education in Devon and Cheshire. Her first job in FE was in Coventry as a lecturer where she was subsequently appointed as Head of Department and then Assistant Principal. As Vice Principal at Gloucestershire College, Brenda was strategic lead for partnerships and external relations including Universities, employers, local authorities and regeneration agencies.
She is now a Non-Executive Director and Board lead for medical education at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country. She is also a National Leader of Governance for Further Education ( Association of Colleges) supporting Board development in colleges.
Brenda is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She was awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours List for her services to Further Education. Through her company, she now provides executive mentoring and coaching in the public sector.
