Maya was signposted to Nacro by Connexions after visiting them to get some information about a suitable career.
Maya came to Nacro without many qualifications from school but was really motivated to get a good job in her local area and to improve her skills in maths, English and ICT. She started on a Nacro education course and worked through all the entry levels in English and maths and then progressed onto our customer service apprenticeship course. Following this Nacro helped Maya to secure a work placement in Baches solicitors working in their office as part of the admin team.
At the start, Maya was shy and just got on with her work without saying a word, but gradually her confidence grew and she took on more responsibility and started to get on well with the admin team and the solicitors. Her duties ranged from taking important documents to courts in Birmingham and Wolverhampton to answering telephones to dealing with the clients to filing and photocopying.
After she had been at the solicitors for a few months, Maya made so much progress that she was offered a job as apprentice office junior. During this time she stayed really motivated to continue her learning at Nacro and worked through her level two in customer service, along with her level one and level two in maths and English.
Now Maya has finished her level two apprenticeship in customer service and is permanently employed as office junior. Her confidence is still growing and she is still learning and is now sitting her level three in business administration. She is a real credit to herself, to Nacro and to her employer, and we are sure she will continue to do well.
