“We are proud of all our students receiving GCSE results today. This is a moment to celebrate your hard work, commitment, and resilience. Every step you take to reach this point matters, and you should be proud of what you achieve.
“GCSE results day is not only about grades, it is about doors opening and the opportunities that lie ahead. At Nacro we believe passionately in your potential, and we continue to stand alongside you as you take your next steps.
“Today is the start of the next chapter. Be ambitious, be confident, and keep moving towards who you want to be.”

Student’s stories

Shannon

Since being at Nacro, Shannon has grown in confidence, and has learnt many coping strategies that help her to push forward and achieve her dreams.

Shannon has struggled with anxiety for quite some time, which had a big impact on her attendance and performance at mainstream school. Shannon did not engage with mainstream classes and had a significantly reduced timetable.

Shannon has successfully achieved a Grade 4 in Maths and a full Level 1 in Hospitality & Catering in addition to participating fully in a work experience with ‘Blend’, Tutorials and Pastoral activities.

I love being at Nacro. Carole, Jackie, Obinna, Emma and Effy have helped me so much. I am coming back this year to do Hospitality and Catering Level 2, and I have been asked by the organisers of ‘Blend’ if I will complete a work placement with them to support other young people with anxiety and take care of the kitchen. I am so happy, thank you."

Bernardo, student at Sheffield Education centre

Bernardo was born in London and then spent 15 years of his life growing up in Brazil. Bernardo returned to England in November 2021, he had 5 short months to prepare to sit a series of GCSEs, but even so he managed to get a 3 in maths and a 9 in Portuguese.

Bernardo left school and enrolled in a college in Sheffield, sadly this did not work out for him, and he arrived at Nacro Sheffield in December 2022. During the next 2 years Bernardo managed to achieve a level 1 and 2 in sports, a maths GCSE and 2 levels in Functional Skills English.

This year Bernardo has excelled and has achieved a massive Grade 4 in English Language GCSE and a level 1 in Hospitality and Catering.

Bernardo says “I have really enjoyed my time at Nacro, I feel that I have achieved a lot and the support from all the staff has been brilliant. I am now working full time in McDonalds and enjoying every minute of it”.

What to do if you’re disappointed with your results

We understand how tough it can feel when things don’t go as planned. Remember, this isn’t the end of your journey. Here are some helpful steps you can take:

  • Share how you’re feeling with someone you trust.
  • Take care of yourself – recognise and celebrate the hard work you’ve put in, whatever the outcome.
  • If you are a Nacro Education student, speak to the staff who are on-site today. They’re here to support you by explaining your options, such as resitting exams next year, appealing results, or getting advice from careers staff and the National Careers Service.
  • If you are not a Nacro student, speak to a staff member at your school or education provider – they will be able to help you with your options or signpost you to other support.
