This qualification is designed for those who want to develop practical skills in Electrical and Plumbing, giving you the opportunity to work with real tools, materials, and techniques used in the industry. 

You’ll build your understanding of essential trade skills, from fitting pipework and installing basic electrical circuits to working safely and efficiently on-site. The course will also introduce you to key industry regulations, helping you develop the knowledge needed to work in the building services sector. Our course offers a broad foundation, combining hands-on training with core technical knowledge to set you up for success.

Course details

At Nacro Education Boston, we let you learn in your way, at your pace. On Get Set! for Electrical and Plumbing Level 1, you will gain an understanding of the core principles and practical skills needed to work in the industry. 

You will get hands-on experience through practical tasks and real-world challenges, helping you develop essential problem-solving, mathematical, and communication skills. This course combines practical workshop sessions with classroom-based learning to give you a well-rounded understanding of Electrical and Plumbing. We promote critical thinking and technical problem-solving, encouraging you to approach tasks logically and apply your skills in different scenarios. 

In addition to learning trade-specific skills, you will develop the ability to interpret technical drawings, follow installation guides, and explain your work clearly. This may include writing up project plans, discussing your approach with peers and tutors, and presenting your completed installations. You will also learn how to assess and improve your work by accepting and applying feedback. 

To further support your learning, SmartScreen is available for this course, providing module-specific support materials to enhance your learning. 

You will be awarded the qualification upon successful completion of the modules, assessed through a portfolio of work that demonstrates your practical skills and understanding. 

Students are required to successfully complete the following modules for the Electrical and Plumbing Level 1 course: 

  • Health & Safety. 
  • Installing one-way lighting circuits. 
  • Assembling 13 amp switched sockets wired in ring final circuit. 
  • Installing 2 way lighting circuits. 

 

 

At Nacro Education Boston, we use a variety of assessment methods to ensure you complete the Electrical and Plumbing Level 1 course.   

Modules are assessed in the form of a portfolio of work, this could include observations on practical tasks or written assessments. You’ll be supported with all your work and given feedback and your teacher will go through all this when you sign up for the course. 

As part of your Get Set! for Electrical and Plumbing Level 1 course at Nacro Education Boston, you’ll gain practical experience and insights into the trades through a mix of enrichment activities and work placements. 

You’ll visit local trade suppliers, construction sites, and plumbing and electrical firms, giving you hands-on exposure to real working environments. Regular employability sessions will support you to find placements that match your career goals. 

You’ll also hear directly from industry professionals, including experienced tradespeople and business owners—offering valuable career advice. For those not yet ready for external placements, project-based work at the centre helps build your skills and confidence in a supportive setting. 

Throughout the year, you’ll also have access to a variety of enrichment experiences, including:  

  • Trips to local businesses and factories.
  • Talks from trade experts.
  • Support to gain your CSCS card—a key qualification for site work.

You’ll also have the chance to take part in skills competitions and trade awards to showcase your talent and boost your confidence. 

At Nacro Education Boston, we’re here to support you every step of the way, helping you gain the experience, skills, and confidence you need to take your next step in the electrical and plumbing trades. 

After successfully passing this course, you will have the core knowledge and practical skills needed to progress to a higher-level qualification and take the next step towards your chosen career. 

Upon completion, you will achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Electrical and Plumbing and will be able to progress onto a Level 2 qualification.  

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to obtain a CSCS card, which allows you to work part-time as an unskilled labourer on a construction site, helping you gain hands-on industry experience while continuing your studies. 

You can also speak with our careers advisor before completing the course to explore apprenticeship opportunities or entry-level employment options within the plumbing and electrical sectors.  

A keen interest in personal development is desirable. There are no specific entry requirements for this course however you may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved an Entry Level qualification.
