Free training course to give Bedfordshire employers confidence to recruit safely

The course, which takes place on Thursday 3 March at the Park Inn (Radisson) Hotel, St Mary’s Street, Bedfordshire, is being supported by Olly Martins, Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner. David Watson, Director of Health and Justice, at Nacro, explains:
“The UK is experiencing a chronic skills shortage. While employment is at an all time high, businesses report continued difficulties in finding the right people with the right talent, skills and abilities to fill their vacancies. Yet, the idea of employing a person with a criminal record remains a concern for many employers.

“David Cameron’s announcement last week that the Civil Service will be removing criminal record declaration questions, from the initial stages of recruitment (Ban the Box), demonstrates the government’s commitment to giving ex-offenders a fair opportunity to compete for jobs.

“Our training will give employers in Bedfordshire the skills and resources they need to assess the risk and suitability of otherwise highly skilled applicants that have made mistakes in their past.”

The course, which is part of a wider initiative, is aimed at providing employers with the tools they need to help them save money on recruitment, minimise risk by thinking more broadly about safeguarding, improve workforce diversity, meet CSR objectives, improve corporate reputation and avoid unnecessary and costly legal pitfalls.
