Welcome to this edition of the Nacro Housing newsletter

Welcome to our latest newsletter, bringing you up to date on our latest service offers and the ways in which we could work with you to make a difference to vulnerable people in your area.

Nacro is a progressive social justice charity. We believe that people and communities are the solution to better health and life chances. Throughout England and Wales, we embrace the need to work locally in order to enable vulnerable people, families and communities to thrive.

Working with service users is at the heart of what we do. Our national Nacro Community Voice Council ensures that our service users are heard and can influence the design of services. We work with a wide range of people including those who are homeless and young people who have been in care. We also influence national policy and are currently working with partners and Government on the Homeless Reduction Bill and to develop the future funding model for supported housing.

If you’d like to find out more about how Nacro is influencing housing policy and working with other organisations in this area, you can contact Caroline Drummond – Policy Officer.

Nacro Homes Agency

Nacro Homes Agency is a social lettings agency, specialising in supporting and securing homes for people who are homeless or experiencing insecure housing. Building on our extensive track record of providing housing services for vulnerable people, we have helped many individuals and families access good quality and secure housing. We are also working with a social investor to offer local authorities the opportunity to invest in housing solutions that will reduce their temporary accommodation costs. We now have a growing portfolio of homes in management, offering stability and a platform for our service users to realise their aspirations. Learn more about our Nacro Homes Agency and how you can get involved here.

Housing First

We are currently in discussion with a local authority about setting up a Housing First style service that will be resilient to funding changes arising from the forthcoming funding review of supported housing. This means we will provide accommodation that ranges from self-contained flats and houses to shared housing, working to maximise the length of stay and offering support through extensive partnership with local statutory and voluntary providers.

Homelessness prevention funding

We are happy to discuss with local authorities the ways in which Nacro can support you to bid in light of the recently released homelessness prevention funding. We have an established presence across the country and experience of delivering services – such as temporary accommodation, supported accommodation and community support – for vulnerable people including those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. In areas of our existing service delivery, we can provide you with the housing stock and support individuals with education opportunities. Our services are not just about accommodating people, they are about offering the opportunity to have a safe place they can call home and build their lives around.

Nacro Housing Annual Review

In October we published our Housing Annual Review 2015/16, highlighting the work we’ve done over the past year. Featuring our success stories, recent developments and our housing profile, it offers a helpful overview of Nacro’s work within its Housing services. View and download the PDF here.
