Housing
A stable home forms the foundation on which to build a better life. Without it, it's more difficult to find work, access services, and plan for the future - and there is a clear link between homelessness and offending.
Nacro's housing provides a range of accommodation and support to vulnerable young homeless people, ex-prisoners direct from prison, ex-offenders, people with mental health problems, vulnerable parents and their children, and people with drug or alcohol problems.
People usually use our housing services for 3 to 12 months - whether living in Nacro accommodation or being provided with 'floating support' in their own tenancies. The aim is to equip them with the skills to establish a stable future in their own home. Everyone works through a tailored resettlement plan to help them learn about sustaining a tenancy and to deal with other issues, such as finding work or getting support with a drug problem.
We provide:
- 1,500 places in self-contained flats, shared houses, hostels and foyers in England and Wales
- around 600 flexible support packages (floating support) to people in other social housing or lodgings
- support with developing independent living skills, such as budgeting
- guidance and support with housing applications, claiming benefits, finding education, training or work
- user involvement schemes to give residents and service users a chance to influence how things are done
As well as providing services, we work with local agencies to develop strategies for tackling homelessness and providing move-on accommodation, and are engaged in local strategies to address crime and disorder, community safety and regeneration. We promote housing policies that help to build safer and more inclusive communities.
