Community sentences and bail
When people fail to adhere to community sentences or bail conditions, they can become trapped in a vicious circle of sentencing and re-offending, costing the courts and other agencies time and money.
Our community sentence and bail support schemes are designed to help people fulfil the terms of their sentence or bail – and then move on with their lives, with a reduced likelihood of reoffending in future.
We provide:
- ISSP (intensive supervision and surveillance programme) community sentence schemes. As well as formal supervision, our ISSPs provide over 300 offenders with positive opportunities to promote changes in their behaviour, including education, preparing for work, access to new leisure activities and related services, such as drug and alcohol treatment
- bail support schemes, which help 700 defendants comply with bail conditions, attend court, adhere to court conditions and engage effectively with criminal justice agencies. This provides the courts with a credible alternative to remanding defendants in custody. They offer a range of support, including mentoring, and address the specific needs of women, vulnerable defendants, and defendants from black and minority ethnic communities
- support to people serving community sentences with accommodation and other resettlement problems
All these services are carried out in close partnership with organisations including: youth offending teams, the courts, probation services, and other charities and housing providers.
