Nacro youth worker Clovis Reid recognised with MBE

On Wednesday 4th June Nacro youth worker in West Norwood Clovis Reid received an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The honour was given for his services to youth justice following a 30-year career – both paid and voluntary – during which Clovis has worked with disadvantaged and excluded young people and those at risk of exclusion to help them turn their lives around (see notes to editors for details).

Clovis attended the Palace with his wife Jackie, sister Annette and son Keith. He was nominated for the award by Nacro’s Chief Executive Paul Cavadino.

Paul Cavadino said:

“I can think of no one who deserves this prestigious award more than Clovis.

“Being recognised in this way is incredibly fitting for someone who has worked so hard to help thousands of young people over the years. But there is no greater honour than knowing the positive impact he has had on their lives.

“Everyone at Nacro is extremely proud of Clovis.”

At a party to celebrate his award at South Beach on Brixton Hill, Clovis was joined by family, friends, colleagues and many of the people he has helped in the past.

At the party Clovis thanked his family and friends and said:

“Most of all I would like to thank all of my children. I have one birth son but I have so many children and without them I wouldn’t be here today.”

Close friend and co-founder of Choice FM, Neil Kenlock, said:

“It is so important for a member of our community to be recognised in this way by the establishment.

“Clovis is the first man from the Black community in Brixton to be honoured for work with young people in thirty years.

“It is a long overdue and well-deserved award.”
