About the service
Nacro Newcastle Mentoring Project helps young people aged 16 to 18 at risk of committing crime to stay out of trouble. The service is designed to provide motivation and support through a one-to-one relationship with a trained volunteer mentor.
We provide:
- practical help - for example, in accessing education and training or finding hobbies and interests
- the opportunity to talk things through with someone non-judgemental
- a sustained, regular and reliable form of support through group work and one-to-one sessions
What will I get out of it?
- valuable training and delivery experience in key skills, functional skills and equality and diversity sessions
- employment
- experience of problem solving, planning session/lesson plans, dealing with conflict and aggression, networking, and conducting interviews and initial assessments, ICT
- certification in health and safety, child protection, first aid and mentoring
- increased self-awareness
- access to further education and the opportunity to work towards a formal university qualification
