About the service

Nacro Newcastle Alternative Education Project helps young people aged 14 to 18 who have disengaged with school to return to learning or move on to work. The service is designed to offer alternatives to mainstream education by running flexible programmes that provide the most appropriate package for each individual. The service is also designed to supplement existing curricula by adding a vocational element.

We provide:

  • imaginative activities with a vocational slant designed to inspire and excite participants through formal and informal learning
  • extensive practical activities and opportunities in animal care, horse care, motor vehicle work, child care and DIY
  • work and assessment processes based on practical and emotional skills
  • the option to return to mainstream learning or to move on to other learning opportunities, including nationally recognised accreditation

What will I get out of it?

  • the opportunity to improve your learning
  • the chance to further develop your key skills, including working with others and problem solving
  • the opportunity to work towards an award in work-based animal care (level 1) or motor vehicle studies (level 1) and a certificate in caring for children (level 1)
  • the chance to gain an NVQ in horse care, functional English, functional maths or functional ICT
