About the service

Nacro Gateshead Football Project provides young people with positive sporting activities in order to develop their self-esteem, help them to discover new interests and skills and increase their awareness of the health benefits of sport and physical activity. In particular, it helps disaffected young people find alternatives to offending and antisocial behaviour.

We provide:

  • structured sporting activities
  • advice and guidance on social issues
  • access to outside agencies and a referral process to create links regarding specialist support
  • informal education on sexual health, diet, nutrition, drug and alcohol abuse, employability skills and general well-being
  • training on health, anger management and the consequences of offending
  • one-to-one support and individually tailored work
  • opportunities for volunteering in the community, with access to the football coaching FA Level One award

What will I get out of it?

  • the opportunity to learn about the health benefits of physical activity
  • the chance to take part in sporting activities and improve your physical fitness
  • advice and guidance on everyday social issues
  • the chance to take the first step towards becoming a qualified football coach
  • information on what you need to do help boost your employment opportunities
  • the chance to volunteer in your local community
  • direct access to people who know how to help you
