Nacro in Action

REACT employment project, North Wales

Nacro's REACT project works with young people who are currently in touch with the North Wales Probation Service or who have been in the past. Young people have a one-to-one meeting with a project worker who helps them develop an individual action plan covering social and life skills as well as a training and careers options.

Young people involved in the project benefit from the input of partner organisations including the Employment Service and The Prince's Trust.

Unemployed ex-offenders are twice as likely to re-offend as those with jobs. But many offenders find it difficult to get work because of low self-esteem, poor education, lack of skills and work experience and lack of information on which to make informed decisions. This is often compounded by discrimination from employers who are reluctant to employ someone with a criminal record.

Nacro works with a range of criminal justice agencies to design and run services to help ex-offenders to get back into work.

We can:

Work with people in prison and young offender institutions to help them make realistic decisions about employment and training options open to them
Provide resettlement advice on training and employment to prisoners who are addressing drug problems
Work with youth offending teams to offer specialist advice and services to help young people to address their offending behaviour and improve their chances of getting a job
Work in partnership with local probation services to provide a range of specialist services for ex-offenders, including careers advice, job search, training and work experience
