About the service
Nacro Birmingham Foundation Learning Programme is for young people who want to develop new skills and progress into work, an apprenticeship or college. We’ll give you the confidence and the qualifications you need to achieve your potential and get ahead.
What will I get out of it?
We’ll help you work towards accredited qualifications and find work experience placements in areas of work which interest you. You’ll get full support and guidance from our trainers every step of the way. We can offer you qualifications in:
- construction (carpentry, bricklaying, plastering)
- functional skills, eg, numeracy, literacy and ICT
- graphic art and design
- personal and social development
You’ll develop new skills, including:
- drugs and alcohol awareness
- communication skills
- how to search for a job
- how to eat healthily
- equality and diversity awareness
- general health and hygiene skills
These skills and qualifications will help improve your chances of finding and keeping work.
What else?
- Up to £30 a week through EMA.
- Help with travel expenses.
- Reward-based fun activities.
Service information
Type of service: Foundation training
Participants must be between: 16 and 18
The project is open to anyone:
- not in education
- available for a minimum of 16 hours a week
- committed to getting a job, apprenticeship or going to college

22 weeks to a year, depending on individual requirements
