Nacro in Action

Leeds New Careers

Nacro's training centre in Leeds works with adults wanting to develop their basic skills.

Based on the National Skills Profile, the programme combines personal development with vocational training and the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. The training centre also provides advice and guidance for all offenders and ex-offenders, aged 18 to 60, receiving benefits in Leeds as part of the ONE pilot, in partnership with the Employment Service and the Benefits Agency.

Having a job can be one of the most important factors in preventing people from committing crime by offering them the opportunity to establish a settled, productive life. For people who have a criminal record or have spent time in prison finding work can be particularly difficult.

Nacro has over 20 years experience in developing and running education, training and employment services for people who need extra support in preparing for, finding and holding down a job, including ex-offenders and those who need help with basic skills.

We can develop and run:

  • Pre-vocational training for adults, providing help with key skills such as literacy, numeracy and communication, depending on individual needs.
  • Work-based learning for adults in a range of areas depending on the needs of the local labour market and leading to nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Provision under the Gateway and options of the Government's New Deal programme for unemployed people
  • Vocational guidance and job search programmes, including advice and information on declaring convictions.
