Having a criminal record or leaving prison raise many practical challenges, and it can be hard to know where to turn.
The friendly and expert advisers on Nacro's Resettlement Plus Helpline provide confidential advice and information to people with a criminal record, ex-offenders and serving prisoners, along with their friends and families and support workers, on issues such as:
- applying for jobs with a criminal record
- Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks and disclosures
- vetting and barring procedures
- unfair treatment due to having a criminal record
- other areas that may be affected by a criminal record, including buying insurance, foreign travel, licence conditions, benefits, debt and sex offender notification
- managing your affairs if you are sent to prison
- preparing for release from prison
- accessing services such as drug treatment
- accessing training or education
- finding somewhere to live
Each year our specialist helpline staff help nearly 40,000 people find the answers they need. And if we can’t help, we’ll try to find another organisation that can.
