Saneka's Story

Nacro’s Discus Family Support Project helped get my mum into rehab for her drug problem. She was self-harming, cutting her arms and using heroin. There were loads of needles in the house, so it was upsetting. My Dad was not around, so it was up to me to do something.

I went to see one of the project workers about a year ago and mum had an interview. I didn't have to force her, she was glad to go, and now she's in rehab. It really helped because she's stopped self-harming, she’s got a long way to go with her drugs problem but she's better than she was. I've got my own flat now but I see her and she has visits.

I knew of the Nacro project because I used to go to their girls' group when I was younger and we did things like sex education. It's different to school because there are no boys around and you can concentrate. It kept us off the streets, if we hadn't gone to group we would have been hanging around on the streets drinking.
