NEETS in danger of falling into crime

28-08-2009

Responding the Department for Children, Schools and Families figures: ‘Neets rise by 100,000’, Paul Cavadino, Chief Executive of Nacro says:

"The rise in the NEET figures puts the community more at risk from crime by disaffected young people. Without the focus of a job, education or training, teenagers are more likely to turn to petty offending. They are also more at risk of falling prey to the false glamour of gang, drug and weapons related crime.
"We welcome recent moves to provide more work opportunities and support for young people. The Government must ensure that agencies working with the most marginalised teenagers receive the funding they need to divert these young people away from crime and into training and future employment."
