Ubaid's story
20-01-2010
Name: Ubaid Ihsan
Job: Regional Risk and Performance Analyst
Time with Nacro: 1 year 10 months
I joined Nacro because...
...after working in the private sector for around six years, I realised that I wanted to work for an organisation which was committed to helping disadvantaged groups in society.
My job involves...
...leading a team of four people in Nacro’s south east region. We are responsible for making sure that quality standards, performance and management information are delivered throughout the region.
I enjoy...
...the variety of my work, which means I very rarely get bored of doing my job. Whilst at times there are mundane tasks to be done, I also know that my role and the team’s work are central to the performance of the region. We have a busy yet enjoyable work life and I like what Nacro stands for.
My job offers a number of challenges...
Keeping abreast of changes in funding and in Nacro’s business model is one of the challenges of my job. Sometimes when I am trying to achieve something new, it can also be hard to get people to accept change. In addition, managing the amount of work involved can be challenging.
My success stories...
I know that Nacro’s south region has had a number of success stories but, as I don’t work in delivery, I don’t get to experience these firsthand. However, when I visit other Nacro centres for meetings, I often look at their success boards where you can read about the achievements of service users – these are always a pleasure to read.
I’d say to any potential Nacro employee…
...that, as with many things in life, you need to persevere but, eventually, you will realise the fruits of your labour and know that you have contributed to a greater good.
