What’s unique about Nacro?
We are the longest established criminal justice charity in the country, and the only crime reduction charity that works with people at every stage of the criminal justice system: from prevention through bail, community and custodial sentencing, to rehabilitation for ex-offenders. In addition to the rich variety of projects that we run around England and Wales, we are unique in providing:
- accommodation through our role as a Registered Social Landlord, with 500 homes and support services to ex-offenders and those at risk of offending, including hard-to-place tenants
- our Policy Unit, which analyses current policy and develops responses, to develop cutting-edge interventions that draw on the latest best practice
- our extensive prevention activities with young people
- we run the majority of Youth Intervention Programmes (YIPs) across England and Wales
- the Resettlement Plus helpline, which offers specialist expertise to 38,000 people each year, adding value to any resettlement project
- our unique learning programme, which offers basic skills and job skills development, preparation and vocational training to 11,000 learners each year
- our National Centre for Restorative Justice, which won the 2009 Justice Award for Tackling Youth Crime.
