Children and young people being dealt with by family courts

Nacro is lobbying for children and young people who have offended but have high welfare needs to be dealt with by family courts.

At the moment children and young people who offend are put through youth courts in the criminal justice system, but often their offending behaviour is causal of their overwhelming welfare needs. We’d like to see a closer connection between the criminal justice and the child welfare system where care and crime are effectively addressed, and welfare needs of the child and family are not neglected in favour of punitive responses.
