Volunteering for Nacro

changing lives reducing crime

  *Back

Volunteers play a vital role in Nacro’s youth projects, community mediation work and its education and employment schemes – and a growing part in our work with prisoners. Volunteers offer their time, skills and experience and, in return, Nacro offers training and a chance to get involved in positive and effective activities.

Volunteers join Nacro for all sorts of reasons - to give young people a good start in life and to put something back into the community; or to gain work experience, receive training, challenge themselves, and meet new people.

Nacro volunteers get involved in many different roles, including:

  • Coaching young people in football projects
  • Providing one to one support to learners in our education and employment centres
  • Mentoring young and adult prisoners before and after release
  • Using theatre and drama to educate and engage young people
  • Mediating in disputes between neighbours

Volunteers are recruited from the communities in which Nacro operates. All volunteers have a clearly defined role, agreed between the volunteer and the project, and receive a thorough induction and ongoing support and training.

In a recent survey, nine out of 10 volunteers felt that being a volunteer with Nacro had matched or surpassed their expectations and 99% would encourage other people to become involved in Nacro projects.
