Skills for Life Tutor – Leeds

Salary: £27,577 per annum (inclusive of London weighting)

Two project officers are required to work for Nacro’s Thames Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme (ISSP) which covers youth offending services in Camden, Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets. You will be required to design individually tailored packages for high risk and persistent young offenders, aged 10-17, who are at risk of custody or on licence. You will be responsible for supervising young people on the ISSP, acting as a key worker in delivering the packages and liaising with youth offending officers in the co-ordination of assessments and reports to court. You will have experience of working with young people in the criminal justice system or other disadvantaged groups and of assessment and report writing. Sports Project Manager – Thurrock                                          

 

Salary: £21,885 per annum

Nacro is looking to recruit a new Sports Manager for Essex who will be responsible for the management and co-ordination of the work of its Braintree, Epping, Thurrock and Chelmsford sports projects. The focus of the post is to develop new and existing sports projects (including healthy living initiatives) within Essex. The role will involve an even mixture of project and staff management, networking with statutory and voluntary agencies and volunteer recruitment and assessment. The successful candidate must have experience of line managing staff, and will be responsible for managing all aspects of the project and its programmes to ensure that the project is achieving the required outcomes. You will need to be able to promote the project and its work to partner agencies and to network and establish strategic and operational links with statutory and voluntary organisations. You will also be required to keep up to date with funding initiatives both nationally and locally, and to source funding opportunities for the future development and sustainability of the projects.

 

The successful candidate will have a level 2 sports coaching qualification recognised by the National Governing Body and will be qualified to a minimum of level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent. Previous experience of delivering football or sports projects at a grass-roots level and working with young people who at times may be challenging, difficult and disaffected is essential. Through the Essex Probation Service and in partnership with FTC, Nacro is developing a new and exciting intensive community order programme called The Bridge Programme. The programme will act as a direct alternative to short custodial sentences and will be delivered through a modular approach via a rolling set of activities. The successful candidate will provide an individual intervention service aimed at preventing offenders from becoming further involved in offending behaviour following an intensive community sentence. You will be required to monitor and review clients on the programme (and beyond if necessary) and effectively develop new partnership links with agencies that can provide specialist support to clients.

Duties also include recruiting, selecting, training and monitoring volunteers to support offenders and responsibility for the line management of the Bridge mentors. With a relevant qualification in IT to Level 2, or proof of equivalent experience, you should also be able to demonstrate an awareness and understanding of issues faced by offenders. Experience of line managing staff and of working with multi-disadvantaged people would be preferable. Some evening and weekend work may be required, for which time off in lieu will be given. Nacro holds the contract to deliver the 50/50 element (a programme for Year 10 and 11 school children) of the Key Stage 4 Engagement Programme, and works in partnership with schools and the local authority to re-engage Key Stage 4 learners. You will be experienced in using imaginative new techniques to encourage young people to take up the vocational and work-related opportunities offered to them through the programme, and have an interest in teaching a variety of subjects to young people.
